Volcano Cosigüina and the volcanic chain Los Maribios

Day 1

Today you will travel from Managua to the community La Piscina, which is located in the Nature Reserve of the volcano Cosigüina. It is one of the less known natural areas of Nicaragua. After a traditional Nicaraguan lunch our local guide will take you on an easy 2-hour hike through the wetlands, followed by a relaxing bath in our hot springs swimming pool in tranquil and beautiful ambiance. During the night you will be offered simple accommodation at Ramsar lodge, which is run by the members of a local community based tourism cooperative.

Day 2

After breakfast (7 a.m.) you will make a trip to the top of volcano Cosigüina, by foot o horse riding. During the tour you can enjoy the spectacular view of the Pacific region and Gulf of Fonseca. You will pass through the tropical dry forest which harbours an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. With a little luck you will be able to observe the Scarlet Macaw which is in danger of extinction. At noon you will arrive at the top, with an approximate altitude of 800 meters.

There you will take your lunchbreak while enjoying a magnificent view to the coasts of the neighboring countries El Salvador and Honduras, and of course to the impressive crater lake of volcano Cosigüina.

After descending we will take you to your hotel in the centre of the beautiful colonial city of León. There you can take a little break in order to refresh and look forward to a delicious dinner at one of the best restaurants of León – CocinArte.

Day 3

At 8 o’clock in the morning you will head for the famous volcano Cerro Negro, followed by taking a bath in the refreshing, clear and clean water of Asososca lagoon. Afterwards you will return to Managua.
