Animal life of Cosigüina Nature Reserve
Being a bit attentive you will easily note the great variety of animal species in the area of volcano Cosigüina which was declared nature reserve in 1983. During a hike or horseback riding tour with one of our bilingual guides you will learn about the characteristics of the local mammals, reptiles, insects and birds such as coyotes, mountain cats, ring-tailed coatis, scarlet macaws, black iguanas and many more. Be surrounded by shirps and rustles. Cosigüina is one of the last wild life refuges in the pacific region of Nicaragua which as well harbors some very endangered species such as the Great Curassow and the Crested Guan. These species are very rare and almost extinct in the pacific region. The Plain Chachalaca is one of the most common birds.
