About us
COSETUR was formed after Hurricane Mitch (October 1998). Twelve local families decided to take the future in their own hands, by forming the tourism cooperative COSETUR. After the devastations of Mitch they were left jobless. The families started by renovating the old Hot Springs Swimming Pool, reconstructing its walls with their bare hands, filling empty rice bags with sand. With technical assistance of local NGO Fundación Lider, COSETUR wrote a strategic plan for development of sustainable tourism in the Cosigüina area. Three years later their dream came true, with help of a donor the first cabañas of Ramsar Lodge were built. Apart from successful entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, the members of COSETUR are key players in protection of the environment of the Cosigüina peninsula, and a reknown counterpart in the control of wildfires.
